Living Wage Days January 14-16
There is nothing but a lack of social vision to prevent us from paying an adequate wage to every American [worker] whether he is a hospital worker, laundry worker, maid, or day laborer. -The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
LIVING WAGE DAYS on MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. WEEKEND, January 14-16: We are urging congregations and community organizations all over the country to hold LET JUSTICE ROLL Living Wage services and/or events on the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend in order to inspire, educate and mobilize congregations and community organizations to support and act for raising the minimum wage. It is our hope that Living Wage Days will help launch additional efforts at both the Federal and State levels. A COMPREHENSIVE document has been prepared entitled "Resources for Living Wage Weekend Worship Services and Events" which provides all that congregations and community organizations will need to organize services and events. We hope to have hundreds/thousands of events during the Martin Luther King Weekend and hope that your constituencies will be fully involved. Information about Living Wage Days, "Resources for Living Wage Weekend Worship Services and Events", and a place to indicate participation is available now.

A Just Minimum Wage: Good For Workers, Business and Our Future By Holly Sklar and The Rev. Dr. Paul H. Sherry Foreword By The Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes Jr.
Makes a powerful economic and ethical case for raising the minimum wage and moving the United States from a low road economy to the high road. Counters all the arguments against raising the minimum wage and offers fresh insight into why the minimum wage is so important. In the words of the report, "A job should keep you out of poverty, not keep you in it... Raising the minimum wage is an economic imperative for the enduring strength of our workforce, businesses, communities and economy. Raising the minimum wage is a moral imperative for the very soul of our nation."
